The Brickton Weekly, September 13, 2013

Getting to Know You: Each week this section will highlight one staff member and their answer to the question: How do you express your creativity?
Agnes Guerra, Children’s House Directress
I do not think of myself as a very creative person.  Recently, I was told I am creative in my work with the children, which really prompted me to think about my creativity or lack thereof.  Upon further reflection I realized that I am indeed creative in my craft.  Based on my observations of the children and the work of Maria Montessori, I create a welcoming classroom environment which calls to the children.  I create new "work" based on each child's needs.  I create for the children an opportunity to thrive.  My work with the children has also prompted me to pursue a new way to express my creativity: storytelling.
Volunteer Spotlight
Many thanks to Diane Grassi for doing a “deep clean” to our maintenance closet.  She fixed shelves, sorted, tossed, reorganized and even painted the closet.  It is a DIY masterpiece!
Extracurriculars Begin Monday
Our line-up of amazing extracurricular activities begins Monday, September 16th.  Click here for more details.  Contact Kelly McDermott to register.
Back-to-School Block Party TODAY!

Tomorrow, Friday, September 13, from 5:00 to 7:30pm, Brickton’s Parent Alliance is hosting our annual Block Party.  Come join in the fun with bouncy houses, games, face painting, food, music, dancing, a community art project and more! Volunteers are still needed.  Please sign up on the bulletin board in the main lobby to bring food, drink, tables, coolers or to help out with the event.  We look forward to seeing you there!
Give With Target
This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Brickton Montessori School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million. And please share this with your friends. Vote and see rules at GiveWith.Target.com.
Manna Is Back!
Our Manna Gift Card program resumes this week.  Purchasing Manna Gift Cards garners two important benefits for the Brickton community:
1.) It helps to fund the Middle School’s overnight trips.
2.) It helps you pay your Brickton tuition.
Manna Gift Cards are perfect for every occasion:birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, graduations, etc., and Manna’s large selection of gift card vendors, including grocers, restaurants, stores, and gas stations, means these benefits can easily be earned on money you are already spending. It’s a win for everyone. The first due date for Manna orders is this Monday, September 16th by 10:00 am, and we plan future orders on alternate Fridays.Want to learn more? Stop by the Middle School Manna Booth at the Block Party -- where you’ll receive a quick tutorial.
