THANK
YOU to everyone who came out for Brickton's very first 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun
Run! We had over 100 participants on a beautiful day with a great time had
by all.
Many thanks to all of our volunteers that help
make the day a HUGE success!
Omar Martinez, Joe Somers, Deb DeYoung, Diane Grassi, Kathleen
Kasser, Katie Rose, Agnes Guerra and her parents, Rob Arnoldt, Sara Gregory, Elissa
Sarkiss, John Wilcek, Heather Wilcek, Jen Cozad and Shashona Chau.
Furthermore, a big thank you to Sarah and James' grandmother, Lillian Degand, who spent the
morningteaching the lower elementary students about botany and nutrition and
the Children’s House students about states of matter. The children were treated to a fun, educational
experience.
Finally, Thank you to everyone who supported Brickton's
fundraiser at Oberweis. What a great, easy fundraiser. You eat yummy ice cream and Brickton raised almost $300!
Peace Picnic This Friday!
The Brickton Peace Picnic is Friday, May 30th, from
5:00 – 7:00pm. Plan to bring a blanket or lawn chairs, a picnic dinner,
and have some fun. We will have games and sports for both younger and
older students. The Parent Alliance is sponsoring TWO bouncy houses, a
popcorn machine, and a cotton candy making station. This great end of the
year event is always tons of fun! In the event we will need to cancel for
rain, we will put an announcement out via email, on brickton.org, and Facebook.
On Tuesday, June 3, Lower Elementary
student, Charlie Disse is taking charge of the school! He will be principal for
the day, and his first order of business is to declare June 3rd Baseball
Extravaganza Day. Dress as your favorite player. Wear gear from your favorite team. Get creative and think – hot dogs, baseball
bats, team mascots…the sky is the limit!
Scholastic Book Orders Due
The final Scholastic Book orders are
due Monday, June 2. Submit your orders
to the office.
Graduation and Promotion Ceremony
Please join us for Brickton's graduation and promotion ceremony
on Thursday, June 5th at 7:00 pm, in the Erin Room at the
Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N Knox Ave, Chicago, IL 60630.
Those students in Kindergarten, third grade, sixth grade and eighth grade
will participate in the ceremony, honoring their promotion to a new program or
graduation. There is ample, free parking in the adjacent parking lot.
The Erin Room is located on the fourth floor and is easily accessible by
stair or elevator.
This summer, we will be offering a FREE Introduction to
Montessori for Toddler and Children's House age students. This is a fantastic way to learn about
Brickton's program and get a real feel for the school. If you have a
friend or neighbor that you think might be interested in attending, please be
so kind to send them a note with THIS LINK, or direct them to our website where they will find class
details and available dates, or have them call Molly at 773-714-0646.
It's time to plan for summer reading and make some memories! This
week, some Bricktonians shared their summer reading memories.
Liz Skrodzki remembers the moral
from the book Maybell Belinda: "Don't put on airs when you have
pennies to spend, you never can tell how the story will end."
Cheryl
LaCost remembers engaging family reading and book discussions with her children
from the Warriors to Harry Potter and the
Hunger Games.
Selena Brosnan: Last summer I read A
Prayer for Owen Meany Many people had made the recommendation
and a friend of mine loaned her copy to me. This book went everywhere with me.
I found myself thinking of moments in my life which no longer seemed like coincidences
but pathways purposefully crossing. It is an amazing experience when a book
transcends storytelling and reveals life lessons and appreciation for the human
experience.
