Teacher of the Month – Heather Rivera
Each month, we will highlight a different teacher at Brickton.  It’s a chance for you to get to know the teachers better.  At Brickton, we pride ourselves on building the relationship between teacher, student, and parent.  We feel this is important to the strength of our community.

We hope you enjoy getting to know Heather!

Brickton Student Featured in AP News article
Aidan (Room 106) is among a number of young people featured in an Associated Press story about kids who stutter in connection with the film "The King's Speech."  This excellent film has garnered huge praise from critics, which opens the door for a broader conversation about stuttering, leading (hopefully) to a lessening of its mystery and stigma.  What an honor to have one of our students chosen to be interviewed!  Bravo to Aidan.

Click here for the story on the AP wire.  At the moment the story's title is getting more than 6,000 search results on Google; it is being carried by a number of media outlets, including ABC, NPR, the Washington Post, Forbes, Salon.com, and numerous local media outlets.

Brickton Community Building Event
Our very own John Joyce (father of Malina in room 101) and his band, the Poochamungas, will be performing a free, kid-friendly concert at the Des Plaines Public Library. Let’s join him for a giant Brickton play-date that is sure to get everyone dancing!

Date: Sunday, February 27th

Time: 2:00-3:00 P.M.

Location: Des Plaines Public Library (1501 Ellinwood Street)

If you’re looking for a bite to eat before heading to the concert, the Choo-Choo Restaurant is just 2 blocks away, fun and convenient place to meet up with other Brickton families. You can check it out at www.thechoochoo.com. See you there!

Montessori High School Interest Survey
Dear Brickton Montessori Families:

I am excited to let you know that I have been engaged in a conversation with several Chicago and suburban Montessori Schools about the feasibility of starting a Montessori High School (grades 9-12) in the near future.  We are inviting current parents at each of our schools to offer help in guiding the project.  Please take a few minutes to answer our survey.  If you would like to forward the link to other parents who might be interested, please do so.

We hope that you will join other Montessori families and complete this survey by Tuesday, February 15th.
