New Babies at Brickton!
There have been an abundance of new Brickton babies arriving in the past few days.  The Rutherford family welcomed a baby boy, Quinn James.  He was born on April 2 and weighed an impressive 9 lbs, 9 oz.  His big sister is Grace, a student in Room 101.  Deepa Shah, who was an intern this fall in the 6-9 classroom became a mother on March 26 when she gave birth to her son, Tattva Vijay.  Deepa and her family now live in California.  Finally, Meredith Gregory, Brickton graduate Sara, our school secretary’s daughter, had an early delivery. Her anxious-to-be-here daughter, Juliet Lily, was born on March 29.  Juliet weighed 6 lbs, 12 oz and is also a resident of sunny California. Congratulations and best wishes to all babies and their families!

Brickton Reads

April is National Poetry Month, so before the month is out have some fun adding poetry to your reading routine.  Most kids, especially younger ones, love reading out loud, and poetry is perfect for that! Even before they understand the words they love rhythm and rhyme.  Build on this dynamic duo, grab some poetry books, and celebrate poetry in your home and car.  At school we will celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day as we do each year.  Book Buddies will share and present some new and old favorites of Shel Silverstein.

Silverstein and Dr. Seuss are timeless authors.  But the covers of Seuss and Silverstein books are very unusual.   You might not recognize many other classics even if they are right in front of you. When you visit a book section, be sure to look closely!  The classics are still there: stories by Beverly Cleary, R. Dahl, Hans Christian Anderson and many more.  Adults understand that you "can't judge a book by its cover," but book publishers know that children do!   Covers become outdated and today's children are used to an explosion of images and color. Be sure to share the books you loved with your kids.  Chances are the cover has changed, but "don't judge the book by its cover" and reread the books!
