The Brickton Weekly, January 17, 2014

Getting to Know You: Each week this section will highlight one staff member and their answer to the question: How do you express your creativity?
Beth Peachey, Middle School Assistant, Children’s House Spanish Teacher
Creativity is a big part of both my professional and personal life.  I love to create music with friends and students, and have enjoyed working with the middle school students at Brickton on their drumming performances.  I especially enjoy improvising with other people; it's a unique way to experience the creative process because the music unfolds, changes and evolves from moment to moment based on what my friends and I play!  Planning lessons is also a creative outlet for me.  It is always a fun challenge to think of a variety of ways to make lesson content exciting and engaging for different students.
Congratulations to Brickton!
Congratulations, to us!  Once again, Brickton has earned Full Recognition from the Illinois State Board of Education. Thank you to our families, students, staff and Board of Directors on this achievement.
Thank You Corner
We would like to extend a big thank you to Diane Grassi for patching up holes on the walls of the classroom bathrooms after shelves were replaced last week.  Thanks, Diane!
Brickton Reads!
Many from our community put a thrill in the chilly weather by indulging a favorite Brickton pasttime: READING! Kathleen Kasser relished A Christmas Carol  by Charles Dickens.    Melonie Arroyo is in the middle of The Glass Castle. Shashona Chau is on the last chapter of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time . Middle School girls are deep into the Divergent series by Chicago author Veronica Roth.   Plenty of  students curled up with good reads they got at our December Book Fair.  You can still find Emma Plier delighting in  Ever After  High and Jacob Pollize on his third book of  Roscoe Riley's  Rules Series. Let  Brickton Reads know what you and your family are reading by emailing Liz: liz.skrodzki@brickton.org.
