The Brickton Weekly, January 24, 2014

Getting to Know You: Each week this section will highlight one staff member and their answer to the question: How do you express your creativity?
Megan White, Children’s House Assistant
I express my creativity through baking.  Not only do I love to try any new recipes, I love turning cakes and cupcakes into works of art.  You can transform a Twix bar into a balance beam and a Twinkie into a vault for a gymnastics cake!  The possibilities are endless when you set your mind to something!  I love helping people celebrate special occasions by creating themed desserts.
Volunteer Spotlight
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our many volunteers, including:
  • Parent Alliance for sponsoring our fun-filled family movie night
  • Dave Degand for helping move file cabinets, shelves and tables to create an additional space for tutors
  • Mark Treppa for his woodworking assistance on the Upper Elementary’s art project for the Big Leap
  • Diane Grassi for touch up painting in the classroom bathrooms after our new cabinetry was installed.

Brickton Reads!
Dr. Joe Schwrcz wrote Radar, Hula Hoops, and Playful Pigs: 67 Digestible Commentaries on the Fascinating Chemistry of Everyday Life.  Gym teacher Matt Bobek can tell you all about it!
The Degand family's literary life is full with Cindy reading Sue Grafton's W is for Wasted; Dave exploring Your Guide to the National Parks; Sarah enjoying Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder and James deep into Mr. Popper's Penguins. Check out the afternoon of Japanese Storytelling at Dominican University this Saturday, January 25th.  (As of last weekend half-off tickets were available through Goldstar.)  Got a good read going that you’d like to share with the Brickton community?  Emailliz.skrodzki@brickton.org.
The Big Leap

Brickton’s Annual Benefit represents the deep commitment we have to our children and the exceptional education they are receiving at Brickton.  Our Benefit Committee, made up of parent volunteers, is working hard to create an exciting evening with music, food, drinks, trivia, dancing and our live auction.  The Big Leap starts at 6:30 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Banquets by Morretti’s in Edison Park.
The success of this event is enhanced by donations of products and services from our parent community.  Please use this Donation Form to list the products and services you would be willing to contribute, such as:
·         Showing one of your special talents by offering a themed dinner party, cooking class, or  personal consulting services.
·         Contributing homemade crafts, including jewelry, woodworking, stained glass, a quilt or even a festive goodie basket.
·         Donate tickets to a sporting event, timeshare, or vacation home
We look forward to seeing you at The Big Leap!
